Service Assured® Electric Repair Coverage

Automatic Enrollment & Costs (Effective March 1, 2025)

As of March 1, 2025, all eligible residential electric customers who are not enrolled will be automatically enrolled in Service Assured® Electric. The RPU Board approved this expansion on September 24, 2024, to include all eligible residential electric customers with underground or overhead services.

  • A fee of $1.99 will appear as a separate line item on your monthly RPU bill.
  • If enrolled in both Service Assured® Water and Electric, the total cost is $3.00.
  • No deductible applies to this coverage.

Opting Out of Coverage

If you do not want to participate in Service Assured® Water or Electric, you may opt out. However, without coverage, you will be responsible for all repair costs, which can be significant:

  • Angle Stops repairs: Hundreds of dollars
  • Service Line repairs/replacement: $5,000 to $10,000 or more

If you opt out, you cannot re-enroll for 12 months from your opt-out date. Re-enrollment requires a pre-approval inspection by RPU. If pre-existing conditions (e.g., leaks, improper installation) are found, you must repair them at your own cost before becoming eligible.

Eligibility

Service Assured® is available to RPU customers living in:

  • Single-family homes
  • Single-owner duplexes
  • Some townhome associations
  • Individual twin homes and triplexes (where each unit has its own water service line or underground electric service installed after January 1, 1981)

Exclusions

The program does not cover:

  • Mobile homes, apartments, or condominiums
  • Atypical service configurations
  • Individual townhomes (due to common property ownership by associations)
  • Pre-existing conditions (must be repaired before eligibility)
